Jewellery often commemorates the tribulations in life that shape us; Personal Baggage aims to commemorate the trials in life that equally influence and shape who we are, to become a conduit for personal stories and shared experiences.

As a wearable, their weight is felt. Their contents can be shared by the wearer, or kept shut - never to be revealed. Upon opening, each suitcase locket reveals a diorama signifying moments of turmoil, loss or despair. In some cases, their contents may be removed and toyed with.

Each diorama depicts a moment of struggle or need - something we can all relate to at times. Much like many personal traumas, these works have been hidden away for years - never exhibited, rarely shared, despite looking worn and weathered.

Personal Baggage invites viewers to engage with and reflect upon the shared human experience found within the complexities of personal growth.

Personal Baggage is proudly presented in conjunction with Radiant Pavilion 2024

Golden Lion is a reflection on the significance we assign to objects and accomplishments. It is a thought-provoking reflection on the Venice Biennale’s esteemed Golden Lion award; While this accolade can symbolise the zenith of an artist's career, Golden Lion delves into themes of ambition, encouraging a reimagining of how we recognise and celebrate our own achievements and ideas of success.

Challenging perceptions from the outset, Golden Lion isn’t just a depiction of a lion; it’s a creature imbued with layers of meaning—magic, dread, fear, fantasy, and fairy-tale elements, mirroring the dizzying emotions one may experience from the pinnacle of success. The familiar image of a lion is given an unexpected twist with a clown-like face, creating a striking and unconventional interpretation— he’s in on the joke, but he's also giving a wink and a nod, letting you know, “You have earned this."

Golden Lion is about encouraging self appreciation, and writing your own history. It invites viewers to consider the value of self-recognition and the power of patting oneself on the back.

The preparation of death through rites and rituals circumscribes our individual beliefs of the fragility of life and the hereafter. How then do you prepare for another’s death when your beliefs are not paralleled, when through their suffering you feel that their beliefs are more remote than ever.

Wash Me, and I Shall be Purer Than Snow challenges these nihilistic notions of what becomes of us in passing and the loss and grief that remains. It explores the human certainty of uncertainty in death and the afterlife and the life struggle of vices and virtues.
